I'm posting this in part to remind me to read it through later. A quick scan of the letters that this article generated (scroll down to find them) reminded me of the "viewer letter" interludes from Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Pigeon extermination has become very popular across the UK, as local authorities compete to think up original ways of dispatching the Flying Wizards of Satan.
American friends of mine returned from Trafalgar Square recently, disappointed that their children could not enjoy the terror of being festooned in disease-ridden winged rats.
I had to explain that the shortage was due to the Peregrine Falcons employed to 'scare the pigeons away' had proved to be acting off-message and were actually now slaughtering the vermin in their thousands.
Apparently, the British Public are happy to turn this holocaust into a source of amusement.
Wait until those Falcons get a taste for those little tourist children.
