...you've tackled 35 of the "40 Things Every Drunkard Should Do Before He Dies."

All in the past week.

Say, thanks for the link and kind words.
And hey, damn swanky new look.
Well, new to me, I don't know how long it's been up there, but it's great.
Also, soiled pajamas make a killing over at eBay Japan.

I wanted to mail this to you, but I either don't have your address or it's under "Dave @ lumberworld" or something.

curious minds want to know... have you really done any of the 40?

Posted by: z. at May 11, 2004 02:34 PM

Z. Might I remind you the name of the series is "You know you're a drunk when..."

Posted by: antigeist at May 11, 2004 03:11 PM

Dong. My good fellow. Thank you for the kind words.

However my little caricature is realistic enough that people have started to recognize me. On the street. In the subway. Aren't you Antigeist? they say, putting me in the awkward position of having to lie, or run, or if cornered, stab them. Several times.

Anyway. Welcome back. You Book Deal having bast'ad.

I never gave a hobo twenty bucks. I once traded hats with a hobo, which to my mind out-drunkards twenty bucks.

So the question remains: Which ones have you yet to collect?

(I'm in the low 20's lifetime, and that's being generous.)

Awright Chico. If you must know. But you owe me some serious personal dirt.

In reverse order, I have never:

#34--Spent half a paycheck on a single bottle of booze. But almost, while accomplishing #28 (sending a friend a bottle of good liquor). My friend Peter has a penchant for fancy-ass bourbon (oxymoron?), like the fifty dollar a bottle kind, and I've never been a big earner.

#32--Learned at least one traditional drinking song. Unless you count the Pogues. Wait...screw that. The Pogues totally count. I guess I'm down to four.

#27--Get loaded and tell your boss exactly how you feel. Even a drunk knows not to bite the hand that pays for the hooch.

#22--Tried at least a hundred different drinks. One too many 'Suffering Bastards' taught me to stick to my drink of choice.

#5-- Spent the night in the drunk tank. I have spent the night in jail, while drunk, but I was arrested for trespassing and destruction of property. I won't go into it, but let's just say if, at a gig, you dump me for the town groupie-whore and then, in your shame, refuse to make arrangements so I can get my records back? I'm still getting my fucking records back.

Hey, I was just pleading the 5th to protect someone *wink* who might not want to be mentioned *wink* as one who participates in a few of the 40 ALONG WITH ME ON A REGULAR BASIS *wink*.

See, I knew better than to ask the other side of that question. 'Cause see, I'm all, like, a gentleman and shit. (Also, z, I get talk. You get action. Just saying. Though I do have two of your missing five over here.)

Fess up. (2?)

Posted by: antigeist at May 14, 2004 11:11 AM

BTW, I'm back in business.

Posted by: jonmc at May 16, 2004 12:10 PM

Yeah, I've done 22 (frexample, one night in college, I drank the alphabet. I was that guy for a few years) and 27 (I tended bar for 6 years in this high-traffic sports joint; it was pretty much inevitable).

Don't drink much these days but still pleased(?) with my haul:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (sort of), 8, 9, 15, 16, 17, 18 (x2 - Guiness brewery and Springbank distillery), 19, 20, 21, 23 (born and bred English but my ancestors come from France, Italy and Ireland and I've been wrecked in all those places), 24, 31, 32, 33, 36, 39. I almost did 25 as well but we had a row so I walked out and drank it on the train home.

I've moved on to marijuana now - can somebody tell me where I find my score for that?
