Shhhhh

Sure has been quiet around here lately... favorite daily reads deciding to up and quit, a rash of extended hiati (I don't care if that's not the plural of hiatus, it should be). Dong is MIA, TMFTML is off on one of his drinking binges recharging his batteries, and I can only guess poor Emma is still at the mercy of Verizon. And Monk?...who knows where the hell he's gone to. Probably fell into a pit of depression, or in love. Same thing.

If I weren't on one of MY drinking binges so busy with other life-stuff right now, I might be suspicious of a conspiracy. I might worry.

As I said at Metafilter a week ago: if the blog world was a Behind The Music special, right about now would be the point in the story when the narrator says, "Behind the scenes, storm clouds were brewing..." Friction, ego-tripping, and a generally toxic atmosphere are draining the fun out of it for me.

I may come back to blogging one day, when I can offer something besides vitriol and flipness and not feel like I'm being either misunderstood or laughed at. I don't know whether to blam my lack of talent or other people's lack of understanding but my points failed to be made, which makes it all seem ridiculous right now.

i'm in search of inspiration that will make me want to turn off the latest episode of america's next top model, get off my fat butt, and sit down (on my fat butt) and blog. i think of things to write. and then i don't write them. i think you might be the only one who's noticed (which is a good thing in this instance).

Thanks, Dr. Geist. What do you want me to work on for our next session?
Actually you may want to phone Ripley's as I am currently neither in love nor particularly depressed. Just been spending my spare time making pretty pictures with rubber stamps. Hey this really saves on the long distance bills! Did you ever figure out what it was you wanted to ask me?

OH you kids. I tease because I love. Truth. That, and, well... when you only get five hits a day, and four of them are MIA, one can start to feel like they're just talking to hear themselves speak. Okay, I always talk to hear myself speak, but this is different.

Monk -- I did remember. It was about the house. Just wanted an update.

Zeeb -- First off, I've seen your butt, and your butt is NOT Fat, oh, wait. I haven't seen your butt... I meant I've seen it in jeans, not that I was staring or anything. That time, sitting at Enids, and you stood, butt all at eye level. I found it to be quite a lovely bum, actually, not that I lingered or, oh never mind. Pass the shovel, would you dear? I don't think I've dug this hole quite deep enough.

Jon -- you made your point just fine. Even if I don't agree with the characterization of your posts being vitriolic and flip. Can't say I never laughed at you though. Some of 'em were damn funny. Best of luck.

Well, you seem to be in the minority, antigeist.

I'm probably gonna slowly retire from MeFi and 9622 and other hangouts, too. The funs draining from just about everything that I once enjoyed. What used to make me happy now only makes me either depressed or enraged or frustrated.

Eventually, I'll just become like Salinger or Pynchon. One of those recluses who people make up fanciful rumors about.

You heard it first.

Posted by: jonmc at March 18, 2004 09:45 PM

Except, Jon, the rumors about you are true.

And Ms. Geist? I'm still here, honey. Where's the love?

Posted by: Vidiot at March 19, 2004 10:35 PM

Only the ones about the Bic banana costume fetish, vidiot.

Posted by: jonmc at March 19, 2004 11:33 PM

Shhh Vidiot. Do the letters QT ring a bell? Jeeze.

And wow Jon. I knew you stood left of center, but I didn't figure you for a plushie (although a full costume would make you a fursuit, right?). Anyway, it's good we got rumor one out of the way. But I've got to ask: Do you ever suffer from hairballs?
