We've nearly reached the end of January, and I was wondering...how's that New Year's Eve resolution working out for you? Still not smoking? Drinking? Gambling? Cheating on your spouse? Did you volunteer for that charity yet? Chip away at your credit card debt? Have you cut down on the porn? Lost the first five of that ___ pounds? Have you started eating healthier, reconnected with that estranged family member, got a new job, taken up yoga?

Thought so.

I only made one actual Capital-R resolution (it involves self-recorded grindcore anthems and their healing effects on the sick and infirm), and it's actually bearing fruit.

In other news, porn consumption is up slightly, family consumption is down, dessert and CD intake is holding at last-quarter levels. All indicators which portend cautious optimism for ought-four.

You asked.

Et tu, A-G?

I resolved to keep fewer monkeys in my sink. I'm doing okay so far.

Et tu, A-G?

Me? Well...traditionally I resolve to smoke twice as much, drink twice as much, and gain a few pounds. The idea being when I fail to meet my goal --the usual outcome of any of my endeavors -- I will actually be better off for it.

However this year I pledged to revise my personal history. Take all of those moments in my life which had the potential to turn into an extraordinary experience (yet fizzled out into a mundane, unremarkable event) and re-write what went down. All lies of course, but if the trajectory of your future is defined by your past, and your past (which you cannot control) didn't, let's say, set up the most promising foundation for a fulfilling future, then by God you better do something about that past, oughtn't ya?

So if we're ever hanging out and I'm telling you about the time I dated Tom Waits and co-wrote Frank's Wild Years, don't think of me as a filthy liar. Think: Personal History Revisionist.

Personal History Revisionist.

Business card.

I think I might have to steal some of that Personal History Revision. Hey I don't need to steal it - I invented it! Is that a good start?

I think you're getting the hang of it...
