Monk is wondering about wishlists on websites. Personally? I think it's the epitome of tacky to ask total strangers to buy you presents.
That said: I'll have this, and this, and three pair of these. Medium, please.
Posted by Antigeist at August 27, 2003 03:41 PMi don't think its tacky. as long as you're not putting up a big flashy sign saying buy me shit or you can leave now, sucka. i mean, if they click on the link, and buy you something, well, then whee! but if not, at least you put it out there.
(that being said, i think i have in the past had a link to my amazon wishlist that said "buy me shit." so maybe i'm just tack-tack-o-rama. nobody's bought me anything yet.)
Posted by: zeebah at August 27, 2003 04:27 PMI just said it was tacky. I never said not to do it! Look at how I dress for chrissakes.
Whad'ya say we buy each other a pair of the Hulk Hands and host an exibition boxing match in the garden! All the proceeds, of course, go to fellow green things.
Oh God, did I actually say that? Must remember: never. type. sober.
Posted by: Kd at August 27, 2003 05:46 PMI knew that would ruffle some feathers, but every time I look at Amazon it seems they've found a new way to get people to advertise/work for them for free. They'd have you believe that user-contributed reviews are there for the customer's benefit, when in reality paying a writer would cut into their bottom line. And those "so you want to..." lists, and "people who bought this also bought this", it all rubs me the wrong way, it's like the online version of self checkout at the grocery store.
And why is there so much cotton in aspirin bottles?
