Today is the birthday of my first (fantasy) husband, Declan Patrick McManus. If you recognize the name you are, most likely, one of his *other* (fantasy) wives, a freak monkey, and probably someone I already know. Histrionic pining will begin at my house at seven. Cake follows.
[Update 2/26: to prove my point, another person I already know recognized the name and, therefore, is a freak monkey. He would, however, prefer to be cast as 'fantasy nephew"]
Not a fantasy wife here. I'd settle for fantasy nephew, though.
Didn't know it was his birthday though. I'll blame it on Cain.
Posted by: Vidiot at August 26, 2003 05:24 PMAwww, C'mon. It's a fantasy! If I can be his fantasy wife, so can you, my friend.
P.s. enjoyed your link about The Tube. Oh, speaking of links, I added some. Let me go add your site so my tens of thousands of hits a day (ahem, three) can learn of your linky goodness as well.
Did we Karoke last night? Hmmmmm?
Posted by: Kd at August 26, 2003 05:48 PMI recently watched a horror documentary about Shane McGowan. sir spittle was talking (or something approximating such) about the pogues album Elvis produced, and there was something sweet and endearing about the way he referred to el rey de america as "Declan". however, that could be just how the name Elvis sounds when filtered through an abundance of saliva and deficit of teeth.

Posted by: Kd at August 26, 2003 11:50 PMI was just listening to The Pogues last night and marveling at how good they really are.
Sometimes I go back to the bands I've loved only to discover that I now loathe them. Know what I mean? It's kind of like returning to children's books--some of them (Harriet the Spy, for instance) still resonate and others I just can't access anymore (see, e.g., The Borrowers).

I am a fellow Tube-phile, I guess. I've been fascinated ever since my first visit to London at the age of six. And I used to have the goal (long-since abandoned) of visiting every Tube station.
We did karaoke Monday night. Where were YOU, hmmm?
Ah...Pogues talk. Reminds me of the time I went to a Shane MacGowan and the Popes concert in London on St. Patrick's Day, 1997. All was well until the guitarist threw his pick into the crowd at the end. In the scrum that followed, my glasses were broken. (A Doc Marten to the face, however inadvertent and unintentional, will do that to you.) But it was a great show. (It rocked the camel's ass.)
Posted by: Vidiot at August 27, 2003 01:13 PMre: Maud's comment about revisiting things and no longer being able to connect. I hear the band Living Colour now and I think "My God, I used to LOVE this wankery!" and "What's up with those pants?".
Also, I recently forced a friend of mine to watch Tapeheads. Afterwards, all I could say was "sorry. It seemed really good in nineteen eighty-whatever..."
p.s. - if you love the Pogues, stay away from "Hell's Ditch". Like the tuna casserole at the family picnic, it's not... so... good.

Heh. I have a copy of Tapeheads. I'm going to have to watch it again, now. And thanks for the "Hell's Ditch" warning. I had heard it was bad, but now I will be doubly sure to stay away.
